How to Make a Leather Top Hat Pattern, PDF & Tutorial
This is a detailed tutorial for making two types of leather top hat pattern: one stitched with leather lace and one with thread.
This can be used as a fine addition to a reenactment of a historical moment or to a Halloween costume, Victorian and Steampunk style.

MATERIALS
âš BODY: 60/70 cm (23.6/27.6 inch) piece of 2.2-2.6 mm semirigid vegetable tannned leather (5-6 oz)
âš EDGE COVER: 1.4 mm vegetable tannned leather
âš 1 mm waxed thread
âš 4 mm leather lace from 1 mm thick very good quality goat skin
âš Edge painting
ACCESSORIES
âš 1.2 mm wire galvanized wire (approximately 1 m)

âš 18 mm Olfa cutter
âš 1.5 mm hole puncher Wuta for thread
âš 3 mm hole puncher for leather lace
âš John James stitching needles

A cutter, round hole punch, hand stitching needles, rubber mallet and cutting pad. No sewing machine required â all our bags are hand stitched.
Each pattern page clearly states the difficulty level â Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. We recommend starting with a Beginner pattern if you are new to leatherwork. For Advanced patterns, prior experience with at least 2-3 bag projects is recommended.
Each pattern includes a full materials list with leather thickness, weight in ounces, and quantity needed. We recommend vegetable tanned leather for best results. Specific recommendations are included in every pattern.
