PDF Pattern and Instructional Video for Bertrand Backpack
I made mine out of water buffalo leather and changed a couple small things here and there, but wow, what a nice design. It took a long time to make, but it was 100% worth it. I'd love to make another one in cowhide leather and actually put a lining in it and finish the edges properly... one day.
I think I'd replace the side gussets with some extra pockets next time, though. And I might try a different closure for the main flap - I'm too sausage-fingered for buckles.

I like the design of this back pack with the “lid” like top. Feels like the contents will be kept more secure. And as always Vasil and Pavel are responsive to questions about the patten as evidenced by their sending an update to the pattern based on customer feedback. This is a great pattern and a great pattern supplier.

Each pattern page clearly states the difficulty level — Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced. We recommend starting with a Beginner pattern if you are new to leatherwork. For Advanced patterns, prior experience with at least 2-3 bag projects is recommended.
Each pattern includes a full materials list with leather thickness, weight in ounces, and quantity needed. We recommend vegetable tanned leather for best results. Specific recommendations are included in every pattern.
